AS from midnight on Thursday, no one will be allowed to transport alcohol until the end of Easter holidays on Monday, according to Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma.
Dlamini-Zuma addressed the media on the revised Covid-19 regulations on Thursday morning.
“Over the weekend they are not allowed to be carrying alcohol from one place to the other. Police will be doing roadblocks and stuff. Today yes, you allowed to carry and take it wherever, but from midnight today until midnight on Monday they are not allowed,” said Dlamini-Zuma.
“You are allowed to sit and drink where you are at, a bar, under strict health protocols.”
On Tuesday evening President Cyril Ramaphosa announced new regulations for Easter weekend which include the limited sale of alcohol.
In terms of the amended regulations, the sale of alcohol for off-site consumption will be prohibited for the Easter period, Friday to Monday.
Dlamini-Zuma said that all communities, industries, businesses and entities, both private and in the public sector, must operate within the Alert Level 1 regulations, as amended.
“It is important to note that even as the country remains at Alert level 1 during the Easter period, government urges everyone to be extremely cautious and take the necessary precautions to protect themselves and others from possible COVID-19 infection,” said Dlamini-Zuma.
“Government further implores people to observe and adhere to all the non-pharmaceutical interventions in an effort to mitigate the possibility of a resurgence.”
As of Thursday, the cumulative number of #COVID19 cases for South Africa is 1 548 157.
“Today, 58 more COVID-19 related deaths have been reported which brings the total to 52 846 deaths. Our cumulative recoveries today stand at 1 474 319, representing a recovery rate of 95%,” according to the health ministry.
