THE newly appointed ANC Youth League National Youth task Team (NYTT) is calling for action to be taken against ANC national executive committee members Tony Yengeni and Enoch Godongwana after their ‘embarrassing’ behaviour during a heated NEC meeting last month.
The task team also wants the entire leadership of the ANC NEC to attend the party’s political school.
The call comes two weeks after a ‘disturbing’ recording of the last NEC meeting circulated on social media platforms Twitter and Facebook.
Addressing a media briefing on Monday, ANCYL task team’s national convenor Nonceba Mhlauli said the behaviour of Yengeni and Godongwana was a clear indication that the ANC was in trouble.
“As revolutionaries we must rise to the occasion and play our part in restoring order,” said Mhlauli.
“We are happy that ANC President agreed with the ANC Youth League suggestion that all NEC members including the national officials must go back to the political school and that Enoch Godongwana and Tony Yengeni must be taken to the disciplinary committee of the for their ill-disciplined and appalling conduct.”
Mhlauli added: “We urge all members and leaders of the ANC at all levels to place the well-being and transformation of the lives of the disenfranchised people of SA above their own personal interests.”
Ramaphosa launched the ANC’s political school named after struggle stalwart, Oliver Reginald Tambo, at an event held at Gallagher Estate in Midrand two years ago.
Board members of the school are Kgalema Motlanthe, chairperson, as well as David Masondo who is a Board member and Principal of the school.
Other members are Alison Bengtson, Aubrey Mokadi, Cassel Mathale, Derrick Swartz, Douglas Ramaphosa, Jabulani Sithole, John Pamapallis, Joshua Maluleka, Kwazikwenkosi Mshengu, Mahlengi Bhengu, Fébé Potgieter-Gqubule, Ronald Lamola, Sarah Mokwebo, Shafee Verachia and Thandeka Ntshangase.
The newly-established body has been given six months to prepare and hold the ANC Youth League’s National Congress.
The task team says it will be conducting an assessment of the League’s lower structures as a start towards rebuilding the body.
