THE North West ANC provincial conference, which was expected to conclude its business on Sunday evening, was further delayed following the use of bogus accreditation tags by some ‘unscrupulous’ members who wanted to participate in the conference illegally.
ANC NEC Member Nomvula Mokonyane confirmed that some accreditation name tags were indeed fake.
“We can confirm that these ones are not our tags because they do not have the features, we’ve got a three way verification of a tag of this conference,” said Mokonyane.
“So people might have thought they can go and clone our cards, our tags but this tag and this tag are not the same. So even with the ones that have been circulated of one individual with more than 15 tags, one reality is that even when you go and vote you cant come back because the system itself clocks you once.”
Voting for the top five positions of the provincial leadership continued late into Sunday evening.
The other outstanding business of the conference included the election of additional members of the provincial executive committee (PEC) and discussion of the ANC’s policy recommendations from the policy conference, which was held in July.
The elective conference has also been marred by legal challenges.
Supporters of former provincial chairperson, Supra Mahumapelo filed a court application to have the conference declared invalid.
They believed the process of adoption of credentials was rushed.
North West premier Bushy Maape and former ANC MP Nono Maloyi are contesting for the provincial chairperson position, which was earlier contested by seven candidates, five of whom did not make the final cut.
Meanwhile, the conference steering committee earlier proposed that the election of the PEC members and the adoption of reports be postponed to the end of August.
