Build One South Africa leader Mmusi Maimane on Sunday launched what he called the party’s blueprint for a job in every home.

Maimane said South Africans should give the party a chance to put this plan in motion and see results in five years.

“Our Jobs Plan has four parts: One – Growing the economy for jobs, two – Reforming education for jobs, three – Building a capable state for jobs, and four – Creating a safe environment for jobs,” Maimane said while unveiling his plans in Johannesburg ahead of the 2024 National General Elections.

He added that under the plan, within five years it is possible to rapidly grow the size of the economy, create millions of new jobs, and educate and upskill young people to compete at the very highest level.

“With an estimated 18 million households averaging 3.3 persons per household, to put a job in every home—at a minimum—will require at least 2 million new jobs. A skilled workforce is fundamental to earning a higher average income than the prevailing R6,700 or less a month.

“It’s a moment in our country where you feel like you need David to take down Goliath. We need to be able to look at the giants in our land, whether those are giants of poverty and unemployment, and we need to say that we need more and more Davids in all our communities to fight to bring about change.

“One of the giants that we face is that we live in different South Africas. We live in South Africa, where others wake up in the morning to throw away food while others don’t have food,” he said.

Maimane said to support economic growth and job creation, the Jobs Plan spells out how BOSA will overhaul the education system to be modern and skills aligned, create a safer environment by radically reducing crime, and supporting this with a capable, efficient and merit-based government that gets on with doing the job.

Maimane added that President Cyril Ramaphosa by his own admission, conceded that far too many municipalities have failed dismally and cannot provide quality water, sanitation, refuse removal, not to mention the countrywide power crisis, he asked “how can any township business thrive under these conditions?”

BOSA deputy leader Nobuntu Hlazo-Webster told over 2000 party supporters that one of SA’s fundamental problems is not only the existence of broken systems but also broken leaders with no morals.

Hlazo-Webster said the country needs the right policies, a state capable of implementing, monitoring and evaluating those policies, and a government that people and businesses can trust.

“Behind the numbers, behind every analysis, there are real people – South Africans. Everywhere in the country, we are a government-in-working, addressing the challenges of basic services and unemployment, but there is much more to be done to put a job in every home,” she said.
