THE uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party has announced the expulsion of five members, including party co-founder Jabulani Khumalo, for allegedly attempting to sabotage the party from within.
In a statement on Friday, party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela said that the decision was made by the National Leadership Core after it was revealed that external forces were trying to destabilise the party.
The expelled members include Ray Khumalo, Bheki Manzini, Lebo Moepeng and Rochelle Davidson.
Ndhlela said the party leadership made the decision for the benefit of all in the process of transformation.
“We want to categorically state that the National Leadership Core will always act and make decisions in the interest of all patriotic South Africans that want to see change,” the spokesperson said.
Ndhlela said that the party urged its members to remain disciplined and trust the leadership in gaining support ahead of the upcoming National and Provincial elections.
Khumalo registered the party in September last year, and has been the subject of allegations of his gradual removal from leadership structures in favour of former president Jacob Zuma.
In a recent interview, Ndhlela said that Davidson had been a very rogue individual who was previously removed as election manager but continued to engage in unauthorised programmes, creating parallel structures.
The purge of core members come after the recent removal of former national coordinator of the MK Youth League Bonginkosi Khanyile, interim secretary-general Minenhle Cibane as well as Gauteng co-ordinator Philani Nduli.
