THE African National Congress (ANC) has confirmed the postponement of the disciplinary hearing to determine the status of former President and Umkhonto weSizwe (MK) party, Jacob Zuma.

ANC’s acting national spokesperson Zuko Godlimpi said on Wednesday evening, that the National Disciplinary Committee (NDC) session convened as planned and after receiving an application from Zuma’s representative, former chief whip Tony Yengeni, for an in-person hearing, determined that the hearing would proceed virtually.

Godlimpi said the NDC rejected the application, but postponed the hearing to next week Tuesday, following a second pre-hearing conference on Thursday, in order to streamline issues.

However, Godlimpi confirmed that neither pre-hearing conference nor the actual disciplinary hearing will be open to the public or the media.

“We cannot specify the timeline for this process, as it depends on the scope of the deliberations and the issues under consideration,” he said.

The MK party issued a statement saying that Yengeni had attended the hearing to convey the message that Zuma preferred a physical hearing as had previously been agreed upon and that it be opened to the public.

The party said after a breakdown in communications between the former ruling party and the third largest party in the country, the NDC granted the postponement in order to all Yengeni to convey the outcome to Zuma and enable the holding of a pre-hearing conference.
