The Landless People’s Movement (LPM) is doing everything in its power to win the majority of votes from the Nama and Damara people. According to our sources, LPM representatives have met with the Traditional Authority administrations of both the Nama and Damara communities. It is expected that the IPC will suffer significant losses in votes from the Nama and Damara communities in the upcoming elections.
According to obtained information, LPM leader Bernadus Swartbooi has promised to allocate NAD 2 billion for the development of Nama settlements in central and southern Namibia, as well as Damaraland. The funds will also be directed towards the promotion of the Nama and Khoekhoe languages, as well as the culture of these communities.
This subsidy amount is four times the sum that LPM had promised for stimulating Namibia’s youth economy. Bernadus Swartbooi made this promise during the presidential debates organized by Eagle FM in Windhoek on Friday.
Land reform remains a pressing political and economic issue in Namibia, and many disadvantaged Namibians are still struggling to obtain a piece of land they can call home. However, rumors of a secret deal involving LPM suggest that Bernadus Swartbooi may have changed course and is now playing the tribal card.
The current political climate in Namibia is cause for concern. The country has already experienced several intertribal conflicts, and the continent has been shaken by genocides stemming from tribal enmity. Namibia needs a president who will care for all its citizens, regardless of tribal affiliation, and only a united nation can achieve prosperity for its people.
