President Cyril Ramaphosa has expressed his heartfelt condolences on the passing of Pastor Ray McCauley, a prominent evangelical leader.
The founder of Rhema Bible Church, president of the International Federation of Christian Churches and co-chair of the National Interfaith Council of South Africa died on Tuesday night.
He was 75.
“Pastor Ray’s passing leaves our deeply spiritual nation bereft of a remarkable leader whose impressive legacy lives on in the faith of hundreds of thousands of believers within and beyond the Rhema community,” Ramaphosa said in a statement on Wednesday.
McCauley was also a well-known speaker at church events worldwide and authored several books, including “Our God Is An Awesome God” and “Walk In Faith”.
He was involved in events that helped shape South Africa’s democratic nation.
Ramaphosa addressed the 40th anniversary celebration conference of Rhema Bible Church, where he thanked McCauley for his active citizenry.
“Since January 1979 you have been a constant and reassuring presence, taking a strong stand against apartheid and all forms of social injustice,” he said at the time.
McCauley’s family said in a statement that he was surrounded by his family and loved ones at his home when he died.
“His enduring legacy as a servant leader will continue to impact communities far beyond his lifetime,” they said.
