Another group of Ethiopian nationals, who were locked up in a house, has been found in Johannesburg.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo confirmed that 44 people, including 17 minors, were found by private security guards at a house in Sandton on Thursday morning.

Fow now they were being treated as illegal immigrants, he said.

In April, police found 50 Ethiopians who escaped from a house in Lombardy East and in January,15 other Ethiopians were rescued by authorities in Sandringham.

Masondo said the guards heard people screaming from the house in Parkmore.

“They got into the house and found these people who couldn’t speak English then they called the police… they were locked in two rooms,” he told reporters.

He said it was unclear how they arrived in the country and how long they been held at the house. They may have been looking for work.

The owner of the house has not yet been located.
