Ramaphosa Visits the Nasrec COVID-19 Facility In Gauteng

Must read

President Cyril Ramaphosa on Friday inspected the Nasrec COVID-19 facility, which has been identified as one of the sites that would be used to accommodate infected patients.

Ramaphosa met with Premier David Makhura, the MEC of Health Dr Bandile Masuku and MEC for Infrastructure Development Tasneem Motara, who took him on tour of the Nasrec facility and updated him on the impact of COVID-19 in the province, the epicentre of the deadly disease.

Ramaphosa is also expected to visit Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital and the Johannesburg Central Food Bank, which is also used to assist communities in need of food parcels during the coronavirus outbreak.

Government routinely uses food banks across the country to provide social relief to communities.

Currently, this service has been intensified as part of the national response to COVID-19.

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Gauteng currently sits at 1224, with 826 recoveries and 7 deaths.

This means that the total number of active cases in the province sits at 391.

The department of health said out of a total of 7479 contacts traced (these are individuals who were in contact with people who tested positive for COVID-19); 2975 people have completed the 14 days monitoring period with no symptoms reported and therefore they are de-isolated.

There are currently 46 people hospitalized in both public and private facilities in Gauteng.
