ANC cautions its Youth League President Malatji over his ‘insults’

Newly elected ANCYL President, Collen Malatji, has come under fire again, after his remarks concerning Minister for Employment and Labour Thulas Nxesi wherein he referred to him as a ‘pensioner’.

Malatji said the responsibility of creating jobs in South Africa is no longer going to be delegated to ‘pensioners’.

“The responsibility to take this country forward is upon us, but you can’t do that if you have no solutions. That…Thulas Nxesi, who is the minister of employment but it appears like he is [the] minister of unemployment, I don’t know when we are removing him but it’s an urgent matter.”

On Monday, the ANC criticised Malatji for his ‘insults’, and highlighted that while the party welcomes critical engagement, it draws the line at offending and personally insulting party members, and especially leadership within the party.

“Whilst the ANC encourages the Youth League to robustly and outspokenly pursue the interests of young people, we urge that this should be done without denigrating personalities. Whilst we encourage an analysis of many issues confronting South Africans we do not encourage insults on deployees who are seized with these issues,” the party said.

The party further highlighted that substantive analysis and solution-based thinking should be the foundation for critical thought within a liberation movement such as the ANC.

Malatji has been rattling a few cages since he was elected in Nasrec. He first took a swipe at EFF’s Julius Malema saying he was removed for ill-discipline and for contravening the constitution of the ANC and the Youth League.
