A Mpumalanga Police officer arrested for killing his wife

A police officer attached to Public Order Policing in Hazyview, Mpumalanga was arrested on Tuesday  for allegedly stabbing his wife to death and the attempted murder of another woman. 

According to police reports a fight broke out between the 34-year-old suspect and his 28-year-old wife at a liquor outlet.

The suspect allegedly stabbed his wife with a beer [broken] bottle and an unnamed woman who was trying to defuse the situation sustained injuries.

Police and paramedics were called and the suspect’s wife was certified dead on the scene while his 27-year-old victim was taken to hospital for medical attention.

Police spokesperson Selvy Mohlala confirmed the policeman allegedly stabbed his wife with a beer bottle and another woman who tried to defuse the situation was injured. 

“The suspect, who was also injured, was found at the scene. A murder case and attempted murder were registered, which led to the member’s arrest. He was also taken to hospital for medical attention.”  

The officer was set to appear in the Barberton Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

In another incident, a former policeman – Lucky Mudau – who shot and killed his girlfriend in Tembisa, Ekurhuleni and then turned the gun on himself but survived, was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
