The ANC is holding its national executive committee lekgotla this weekend to discuss various issues and challenges facing the organisation.
Among the issues at the top of the agenda is the economic challenges facing the country as the cost of living continues to rise and citizens deal with high food prizes.
The NEC also meets at the back of its key partner in the Government of National Unity, the DA, threatening to take the state to court over the Expropriation Act.
President Cyril Ramaphosa on Thursday signed the Bill into law, paving the way for national, provincial and locals sphere of government to expropriate land for public use.
But the DA, despite being part of the government, has declared the new law unconstitutional and plans to drag the government to court.
The NEC is also meeting as the ANC scrambles to win back its voters following its dismal performance at the general elections after it lost the majority support, forcing it to govern through multi-party coalition.
Cracks within this coalition are threatening to tear this political marriage of convenience apart due to policy differences.
Ramaphosa introduced the GNU Clearing House Committee to deal with any differences that will arise.
While introducing it, he admitted that due to political ideologies within the GNU, it was expected that the parties would butt heads from time to time.
Just months after the Basic Education Law Amendment Act was signed into law in its entirety, the Expropriation Act now has the parties in another showdown.
There is also the matter of the National Health Insurance, which the DA is fiercely opposed to.
Ahead of the meeting, Ramaphosa said the party would not deviate from its mission to advance the interests of the majority of South Africans, even though its was part of the GNU.
The meeting plans the upcoming cabinet lekgotla that feeds into the State of the Nation.
