Brand South Africa board member Tebogo Mamorobela has been suspended for breaching the coronavirus lockdown regulations.

Minister in the Presidency Jackson Mthembu on Wednesday welcomed the suspension of Mamorobela from the board pending the outcomes of an inquiry into possible misconduct and bringing the organisation into disrepute in terms of the Brand SA Trust Deed.

This comes after Mthembu received a report from board indicating its decision to suspend Mamorobela.

“It is incumbent of all of us to respect the lockdown regulations which are intended to save the lives of South Africans,” said Mthembu.

“It is for this reason that we fully agree with the decision of the Board to institute a full independent inquiry into this matter,” said Mthembu.

The DA in Limpopo laid charges against Mamorobela after a video in which she is seen popping champagne with boozed-up party-goers during a ‘lockdown party’ went viral on social media.

Mamorobela, an ANC Councillor of the Makhado Municipality, was arrested with two others by Louis Trichardt police last Friday.

She appeared before the Louis Trichardt’s Magistrate’s Court and was granted R1 000 bail.
