FORMER ANC Youth League Deputy President Andile Lungisa and former ANC Women’s League President Bathabile are among those elected to the governing party’s new National Executive Committee following the reversal of their disqualification.

ANC electoral committee chair Kgalema Motlanthe made the announcement of the 80 additional members to the NEC on Wednesday.

Lungisa secured 1 758 votes.

This comes after Lungisa lodged an appeal with the ANC’s national elective conference over his two-year suspension by the party’s national disciplinary committee.

The appeal follows Lungisa’s failed high court bid, which was dismissed on Thursday, to have the suspension set aside.

A final decision of Lungisa’s suspension will be made when the ANC resumes its national conference in January 2023.

Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana received 1 554 votes while current ANC chief ehip Pemmy Majodina garnered 1 470.

Minister in the Presidency Mondli Gungubele received 1 369 while current ANC Youth League convener Nonceba Mhlauli received 1 167 votes.

Motlanthe said the new NEC members, among others, are: Sihle Zikalala, Mduduzi Manana, Ronald Lamola, Mdumiseni Ntuli, Bheki Cele, Senzo Mchunu, Malusi Gigaba, Pule Mabe, Zizi Kodwa, David Makhura, Tina Joemat-Peterson, Zweli Mkhize, Soviet Lekganyane, Sibongile Besani, Enoch Godongwana, Pemmy Majodina, Lindiwe Zulu, Aaron Motsoaledi, Khusela Diko, Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, Thoko Didiza, Parks Tau, Obed Bapela, Supra Mahumapelo, Tandi Mahambehlala, Noxolo Kiviet, Njabulo Nzuza

Motlanthe said his team was satisfied with the credibility of the results.

“The electoral committee is expected to act partially and independently of political influence and to oversee the work of the party Elections agency, hear and consider objections and appeals,” he said.

Motlanthe said that the voting process was transparent and delivered credible results.

“Every province and Leagues deployed two observers to the elections process to protect the interest of members, ” he said.

“They were there to ensure that results are credible and show the will of the people.”

He said that the voting process for the NEC members started on Tuesday morning.

Counting for the 4 019 votes cast by ANC delegates took place manually overnight until 11am on Wednesday morning.

At least 91% of voting delegates successfully participated in the elections of 252 nominees who appeared on the ballot.

The auditing of the results took three hours, Motlanthe said.
