Pastor ‘Paseka Mboro’ Motsoeneng’s Incredible Happenings Church was torched on Tuesday afternoon after a group of schoolchildren together with members of the community marched on the church grounds, in response to Mboro’s Monday violent siege at a Katlehong primary school.
Earlier on Tuesday police said in a statement that four people, believed to be Mboro and his security personnel, were arrested on Monday night and are expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Court
Videos of Mboro and his goons caused a storm on social media, where he was seen wielding a panga and threatening to cut people allegedly teachers at Matshidiso Primary School before one man, also holding a panga, was seen grabbing two young boys and leaving the school with them.
Police spokesperson Colonel Noxolo Kweza confirmed that four unnamed people were arrested for alleged acts of intimidation and violence at the primary school.
“They are facing a variety of charges including assault, handling a firearm recklessly that could endanger lives and property, rendering security services while not registered, malicious damage to property and intimidation,” said Colonel Kweza adding that the replica firearm and the pangas have since been confiscated.
Kweza said one of the suspects was arrested for assaulting the Station Commander at Katlehong North Police Station when a group of people were threatening the local Pastor outside the police station.
During an interview with News24 on Monday evening, Mboro claimed that he went to the school with the children’s father to take them away. He said the children’s mother had passed away.
“By law, if one partner dies, another must take full custody of the children, especially when they are minors,” Pastor Mboro claimed.
Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni said the possibility of police affecting more arrests cannot be ruled out as investigations into the matter continue .
