DA councillor Tania Campbell was re-elected City of Ekurhuleni mayor on Tuesday.
She was removed two weeks ago through an ANC-led motion of no confidence.
Campbell secured 124 votes, defeating ANC’s Jongizizwe Dlabathi who got 99.
This is as a result of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) voting with the DA.

“The DA would like to congratulate Tania Campbell, following her re-election as Executive Mayor of Ekurhuleni. The multi-party coalition has spent 10 months working to undo the damage done by the ANC. It’s now time to get back to work,” the DA’s Solly Msimanga said in a statement.
“Once again, we saw an attempt by the coalition of corruption to bring an end the hard work and dedication that the multi-party government has brought to this great city. Once again, today we watched the ANC, and their cronies try to get their hands back on the finances of Ekurhuleni. And once again we saw them fail dismally as their corrupt cabal struggled to even agree amongst themselves.”
The Ekurhuleni municipality held a special council meeting on Tuesday morning to elect a new executive mayor.
Campbell was booted out through an ANC-sponsored motion of no confidence on 26 October 2022.
The Council sat last week Wednesday with the purpose of replacing Cambell but the meeting was postponed.
Earlier, the EFF withdrew their candidate Nkululeko Dunga minutes before voting following the former Mayor Mzwandile Masina nominating an ANC candidate Jongizizwe Dlabathi for the position of mayor.

Analysts say the move openly showed that the talks between the ANC and EFF collapsed paving a way for councillors to vote for Campbell or Dlabathi.
