Police in KwaZulu-Natal are investigating the murder of the DA’s chief whip Nhlalayenza Ndlovu in the uMngeni municipality, who was shot dead on Tuesday.

Midlands Emergency Medical Service paramedics were dispatched to the area after the shooting, which occurred at around 19:30, and upon arrival, it was found Ndlovu had been shot several times and declared dead at the scene.

The DA’s provincial leader, Francois Rodgers, described Ndlovu as “a humble servant who always put the needs of those he served above his own”.

“Our sincere condolences and our heartfelt condolences go out to the Ndlovu family during this really tragic time and once again we can only but call on the South African Police Service to do their job and to speedily bring to book those perpetrators who destroyed the life of a DA councilor, of a human, of a man, of a father in the community of Howick,” Rodgers said.

DA KZN Premier Campaign Manager Sakhile Mngadi said that the party would suspend all political campaigning to offer the Mayor Chris Pappas, the uMngeni DA Caucus and the family and friends of Councillor Ndlovu time to grieve.

ActionSA has extended their condolences upon the passing of the councilor and said that the party hoped the authorities would conduct the necessary investigations and ensure that those responsible for this senseless action are made to face the law.

“The alarming rise in political killings in KwaZulu-Natal is one that is deeply concerning, with little to intervention from our law enforcement agencies,” ActionSA KZN Premier Candidate, Zwakele Mncwango said.

More than 20 councilors have been gunned down in the province in a string of unyielding political killings.
