PHUTI MOSOMANE
FORMER Communications Minister, Dina Pule, who left public office under a cloud of corruption, made a remarkable comeback on Tuesday after being elected ANC’s Chairperson of Organising and Membership Committee.
She will be deputised by former Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Mduduzi Manana.
Pule was fired as Minister of Communications in 2013 after Parliament’s Joint Committee on Ethics found her guilty of abusing her power. This after her partner, Phosane Mngqibisa, allegedly benefitted from an ICT Indaba which was organised by her department back in 2012.
The announcements were made on Tuesday by ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula when he unveiled a list of names of the new committee chairpersons and their deputies, including full-time officials to be deployed at Luthuli House in Johannesburg.
The appointments are part of efforts to firm up Luthuli House following the ANC’s 55th National Conference in December.
Other full-time officials at Luthuli House will include Sibongile Besani as ANC Head of the Presidency, Febe Potgieter as Head of Research, David Makhura as Head of Political Education, and former ANC KwaZulu Natal Provincial Secretary Mdumiseni Ntuli as the party’s Elections Manager.
ANC Deputy President Paul Mashatile has been elected as the Chairperson of the Deployment Committee, while Mbalula, as the party’s Secretary-General, will be responsible for co-ordination of the work of the Deployment Committee.
The committee will be made up of the two Deputy Secretary-Generals, Nomvula Mokonyane, and Maropene Ramokgopa.
Other members of the Deployment Committee include Pemmy Majodina, Gerhard Koornhof, Mondli Gungubele, Thembi Nkadimeng, Sibongile Besani, and various representatives of the ANC Women’s League (ANCWL), ANC Youth League, ANC Veterans League, the South African Communist Party and COSATU.
Reverend Frank Chikane, former Director-General in the Office of former President Thabo Mbeki, is now the head of the ANC’s Integrity Commission. He will be deputised ANC veteran, Sophie de Bruyn.
