THE Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court granted bail of R10 000 to Cornelius Zolile Sekeleni, the father of Dr Nandipha Magudumana, on Monday.

According to his bail conditions, Sekeleni is required to report to the Port Edward SAPS once a week and is prohibited from leaving the district without first informing the authorities.

Sekeleni, who is 65 years old and from Port Edward in KwaZulu-Natal, is scheduled to appear in court again on May 16, 2023.

During this appearance, the State is expected to provide further details about the upcoming trial.

The state did not oppose bail for Sekeleni. However, it did oppose bail for Dr Magudumana and her two co-accused.

Magudumana, who is the girlfriend of convicted rapist and murderer Thabo Bester, will remain in custody, while her two co-accused will also remain in custody until May 3rd and May 4th respectively, when they are scheduled to make a formal bail application.

Earlier, the prosecution asked Magudumana to remove her face mask for proper identification.

This was the first time she showed her face while in the dock.

Magudumana was seen blowing kisses to her family, including her emotional mother and sister, during a moment in court.

Sekeleni, and former G4S prison warden Senohe Matsoara, are accused of aiding and abetting the escape of Bester.
