The EFF supporters protested outside the Israeli embassy in Pretoria on Monday in what the party has described as a demonstration of solidarity with the people of Palestine in their ongoing conflict with Israel.

“It is time for the entire globe to realise that the human rights crisis in Palestine has reached the point of genocide and ethnic cleansing,” EFF spokesperson Sinawo Thambo said.

The party has also called on the global community to respond to the human rights crisis faced by Palestinians in Gaza.

The demonstration is expected to start at the Lynwood Gardens estate and end outside the Israeli embassy.

The EFF is joining a number of organisations in South Africa that have been protesting and calling for a ceasefire in the war between Israel and Hamas that has killed thousands of people and displaced millions of Palestinians living in Gaza.

The Palestinian health ministry has confirmed 4 300 deaths – 500 from a Gaza hospital that was bombed by Israel forces, while the Israeli have claimed losses of 1 400 lives.

Last Friday the ANC’s also held a demonstration outside the embassy in Pretoria, with some members calling for the expulsion of the Israeli Ambassador Eliav Belotsercovsky.

On Sunday anti-apartheid struggle stalwart Dr Allan Boesak said while participating in a pro-Palestine march in Cape Town, called for closure of the Israeli Embassy in South and the recall of South Africa’s ambassador in Israel.

On Saturday heads of states from different countries including South African President Cyril Ramaphosa met during the Cairo Peace Summit aimed at brokering peace between the warring factions.

At the summit, President Ramaphosa called on the international community to shift its focus towards reviving the Israel-Palestine peace talks, and said that countries who are supplying arms to Israel and Palestine were only prolonging the conflict.
