Electricity Minister Ramokgopa moves to allay investor fears at ANC Birthday celebrations

THE ANC is expected to use its January 8 birthday celebrations on Saturday to woo back investors amid concerns of policy uncertainty, according to Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa who was speaking ahead of the annual World Economic Forum next week, where South Africa will be joining other countries from across the world in order to discuss matters of global importance.

However, some investors and commentators have raised concerns over policy uncertainty and political instability in South Africa, and the negative impact it might have over foreign direct investment.

However, Ramokgopa tried to allay the concerns and uncertainties saying the government and ANC policies were aligned to address the country’s energy and logistics challenge adding that the party would provide the country with a balance sheet, an account of how far the ANC has come in relation to commitments made in the 2023 January 8 statement.

The priorities resolved at the previous statement included the renewal of the party, ending load shedding at dealing with the energy crisis, ensuring more effective service delivery, maintaining infrastructure and dealing with crime and corruption.

Ramokgopa denied any tensions between the two statements and said that it was an ongoing process of taking note and improving.

“To the extent where it is possible, I’m sure it will articulate a new set of action, and we need to be more aggressive, relentless in the implementation of that action,” the minister said.

In addition, some have expressed doubt at the statement as well as the party’s failure to meet its commitments from last year, with both provincial and national governments failing to provide and render essential services.
