Former ANC MP Vincent Smith Granted R30 000 Bail After Arrest On Fraud, Corruption Charges

Must read

FORMER ANC MP Vincent Smith has been granted R30 000 bail at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

Smith appeared in court on fraud and corruption charges linked to the money he received from African Global Operations, formerly known as Bosasa.

The State did not oppose bail.

Earlier, Smith handed himself over to the police at the Alberton Police Station on Thursday morning.

Smith has also made an appearance at the Zondo Commission, where he testified about his dealings with the company.

In 2019, Bosasa’s former COO Angela Agrizzi told the commission that Smith had received a R100 000 monthly payment from Bosasa to influence committees in Parliament.

Smith in return told the commission that a total amount of R615 000 was deposited into his business account in a form of a personal loan from Agrizzi.

Agrizzi also alleged that Bosasa paid for renovations to Smith’s house and for his daughter’s studies.

Agrizzi said the money was paid to these individuals by the late CEO Gavin Watson to ensure that Bosasa continued to win fraudulent tenders from the Department of Correctional Services.
