Free State Stars winger Sinethemba Jantjie killed in car crash

Sinethemba Jantjie of the Free State Stars was killed in a car accident in Bethlehem on Monday morning. His club has confirmed his death. Jantjie was 30 years old.

The winger, who comes from Whittelsea in the Eastern Cape, was slated to join Bidvest Wits in the coming months. He played in 20 of Free State Stars last 24 games, scoring four goals in the process. Although not all the details of Jantjie’s death have yet come to light, it has been reported that he died after his collided with another vehicle, according to the Sunday Times.

Rantsi Mokoena, manager of Free State Stars, confirmed Jantjie’s death, but said that the club would be consulting with Jantjie’s family before releasing a public statement. They are currently trying to get in touch with his sister, Briefly.co.za has learned.

Jantjie is the latest of several local soccer players who have died in car accidents, joining a list which includes Mlondi Dlamini and Gift Leremi, among others.
