Employment and Labour Minister Nomakhosazana Meth will open the G20’s first Employment Working Group meeting on Tuesday.
The event will unite G20 representatives to address the global labour changes, employment policies and economic growth.
The meeting will be held in Gqeberha until Friday.
According to statement released by the department on Monday, discussions among senior global leaders would focus on employment policies, labour market challenges and strategies for sustainable economic growth and job creation.
Metings will be held under the theme “Living and Working in an Unequal World: Ensuring Decent Work and Decent Lives”. This aligns with South Africa’s 2025 G20 Presidency theme, “Solidarity, Equity, Sustainability,” emphasising fair employment, social equity and sustainable growth.
Meth is set to deliver the keynote address, highlighting key labour and employment challenges, emphasising the need for collaborative policies to promote lasting employment opportunities, economic progress and global social advancement.
It will also feature insights from local and international experts representing G20 member countries and invited guests.
These experts will contribute valuable perspectives on employment policies, labour market trends and strategies to address global workforce challenges and promote inclusive economic growth.
The meetings will focus on four key priorities including inclusive growth and youth employment, gender equality in the workforce, inequality and declining labour income share, and social security and digitalisation for an inclusive future of work.
