The Gauteng Traffic Police has urged all road users to exercise vigilance and comply with traffic laws as the last batch of holidaymakers return home.

“We call upon… drivers, passengers, pedestrians, motorcyclists and cyclists to exercise caution and care when traveling on public roads” said Gauteng Traffic Police spokesperson Sello Maremane on Sunday.

Heavy traffic flows were expected on major routes including the N1 between Pretoria to Polokwane, the N4 between Pretoria and Mpumalanga, the N4 between Pretoria and Rustenburg, the R573 between Pretoria and Mpumalanga, the N12 between Johannesburg and Mpumalanga, the N3 between Johannesburg and Durban, the N1 between Johannesburg and Bloemfontein, and the N12 between Johannesburg and Potchefstroom.

Besides the usual road safety tips, drivers were urged to switch on their lights and observe safe following distances due to the rainy conditions.

The Gauteng Traffic Police, together with Gauteng Traffic Wardens and other law enforcement officials, were on high alert to ensure road safety through various enforcement operations.
