IEC reports that at least one person from the whites-only enclave of Orania, in the Northern Cape, voted for the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), set social media ablaze and triggered some hilarious comments from South Africans.
“When I grow up, I wanna be a badass like the person that voted for EFF in Orania! I thought I was fearless,” chipped Siv Ngesi, a leading South African actor and comedian.
Afrikaner author and journalist Max du Preez weighed in saying: “There’s a witch-hunt going on in Orania for the one person who voted for the EFF. You rebel, you”.
While ‘Naledi’ posted: “The one person in Orania who voted for EFF is an icon. A legend among us. An agent of chaos. The bravest of us all”.
The last say goes to ‘Simon Grindrod’ who quipped: “It’s going to be pretty quiet at the watering hole tonight as everyone in the bar tries to figure out whom among them voted EFF”.
IEC results from the voting district, located within the Thembelihle Municipality, the Northern Cape on Thursday afternoon; showed that 65.6% of the collected votes were for the Freedom Front + (FF+), with the Democratic Alliance (DA) coming in second with 22.16% and Hope for South Africa at third position with 6.63%.
The African Christian Democratic Party also enjoyed minor support within the district at 2.97% of the vote.
However, it is a remarkable revelation that a radical left-wing party such as the EFF received at least one vote from Orania.
However, in light of the Electoral Commission’s strict measures to ensure anonymity, the voter’s true identity will remain unknown hence the hunt is on for the one “Radical Boer” who voted EFF.
