EFF leader Julius Malema said on Thursday he is ready to appear before the State Capture Commission chairperson, Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo, and submit his financial records.
Malema was addressing thousands of EFF supporters outside the Randburg Magistrate’s Court in Johannesburg.
He appeared in court together with Dr Mbuyiseni Ndlozi for the alleged assault of Johannes Venter at the Fourways Memorial Cemetery during the funeral of struggle stalwart Winnie Madikizela-Mandela on 14 April 2018.
“I am not scared of Zondo,” said Malema.
“Zondo must give me a date and I will give him a copy of my bank account details. I am not scared of anything … He must be a man and face me face to face. Zondo, don’t come to me through newspapers. Come straight to me and ask for my bank details. I am not scared of Zondo. He is not Jesus Christ.”
Malema and Ndlozi’s case was postponed to March 2021.
According to Venter, Malema and Ndlozi were not accredited to enter the cemetery.
However, Malema’s lawyer, Advocate Laurence Hodes, argued that Colonel Venter did not bother to look for the permit on the EFF leader’s car before he stopped them.
Venter said that he saw no accreditation on the vehicle, adding that Malema’s vehicle was not part of the official convoy.
Both Malema and Ndlozi pleaded not guilty to the assault charges brought forward by Venter.
“Our case is postponed to March next year but there is no case. We must never worry about that. When they worry on the facts of the case, we worry about taking over government,” said Malema.
“Focus on taking over power. Focus on removing Cyril Ramaphosa. Focus on removing the corrupt ANC. Focus on collapsing capitalism. Focus on attaining socialism in our lifetime,” said Malema.
The court will hear more testimonies from other witnesses when the pair returns to court in 2021.
