Lwazi Bam to step down as Deloitte Africa CEO

Must read

LWAZI Bam will step down as CEO of consultancy Deloitte Africa on May 31, after serving in the position for ten years.

He will be succeeded by former chairperson Ruwayda Redfearn.

He says his biggest challenges in the last term include scrutiny on the profession and role of auditors and getting the company through the global Covid-19 pandemic unscathed.

“Both these events have provided significant opportunities for changing how we conduct our business. They give us impetus to leapfrog several stages of development and accelerate our digital transformation journey.

“The investments that we have made in audit quality, in growing our advisory business and our positioning in East and West Africa have equipped us well for the unfolding future,” Bam adds.

Bam joined Deloitte in 1994 and became a partner of the firm in 2003. He had been due to finish his tenure as CEO at the end of his second term in May 2019; however, the firm requested him to extend his stay for an additional term.

He is also a member of the Deloitte Global Executive Committee.

Prior to this, he served on the Deloitte Global Board and on its Risk and Strategy Review Committees. Over his more than 20 year tenure with the firm, Bam served in a number of roles including being a member of the Deloitte Southern Africa Board of Partners and Directors, holding executive responsibility for the firm’s strategy and the Corporate Finance service area, and was the Head of Mergers and Acquisitions Advisory.

His portfolio of Corporate Finance experience covers valuations, due diligence and mergers and acquisitions. His work has covered many industry sectors including transportation, financial services, fuel and fleet management, technology, media and services.

BAM is a former member of the Securities Regulation Panel (SRP) and is a past President of the Association of Black Accountants of Southern Africa (ABASA). He is also the Chairman of the African Children’s Feeding Scheme.
