Following ongoing shuffling of members, the uMkhonto weSizwe Party has announced that it will swear in two MPs next week Tuesday.
They are former Johannesburg council speaker Colleen Makhubele and Bapedi Crown Prince Adil Nchabeleng.
“This milestone reinforces the MK Party’s unwavering commitment to transformative policies, socio-economic justice, and national progress,” the party said in a statement.
Makhubele served as Congress of the People’s only member in the Johannesburg metro council in 2023 and joined MK Party last year. She was axed from Cope after she started a political alliance, the RA Rainbow Alliance, without the sign-off of party leader Mosioua Lekota.
The MK Party believed that Makhubele was an accomplished public servant and would bring a wealth of experience in governance and leadership.
“Her memberships in The Institute of Directors South Africa and the HCL Foundation Trust further highlight her dedication to ethical governance and public service,” said party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndlela.
He said her proven track record aligned with the MK Party’s vision of people-centered development and transformative change.
Ndlela said the party appointed Nchabeleng because of his dynamic blend of heritage and modernity, and also trusted his demonstration of excellence in multiple fields, including project management, ICT, entrepreneurship and investment banking. He is the head of lobby group Transform RSA.
“His active role in the MK Party’s national high command and economic transformation committee positions him as a champion for socioeconomic reforms and sustainable development,” said Ndlele.
Additionally, the party highlighted that his insights and expertise would be instrumental in shaping a prosperous and equitable future for South Africa.
Ndlela said their presence in Parliament would amplify the voices of the marginalised and ensuring that the party remained a formidable force for economic freedom.
