Malema likely to come out victorious in EFF election

The EFF elective conference gets underway on Friday in what promises to be a peaceful affair as bruised leader, Julius Malema, goes into the party’s election limping but assured of a win.

There is no clear candidate to challenge him for the top job.

The red berets will go into what they call national assembly bleeding following the defection of some of its senior members, including Floyd Shivambu, to the MK Party led by former president Jacob Zuma.

In a state of readiness press conference, EFF secretary-general Marshall Dlamini said the party was ready to hold the elective conference, pointing out that even during registration it had been smooth sailing.

By Thursday late afternoon, 90% of the 2500 delegates had been registered.

It is not clear who will replace Shivambu, who was the deputy president, but Dlamini is well positioned to fill the post.

The rumour mill has been rife that the fallout between Malema and Shivambu was because Malema favoured Dlamini to be his deputy.

Malema is likely to be voted back into the top spot for a third term despite the party losing support in the elections.

Dlamini told reporters on Thursday that the new leadership would be announced on Sunday.
