The top commercial radio station of the South African Broadcasting Corporation, METRO FM, has officially launched the METRO FM Music Awards 2025 (MMAs) in Mpumalanga.
Partnering once again with the Mpumalanga Provincial Government and The Motsepe Foundation, the awards promise another thrilling edition of this prestigious ceremony.
The launch event convened partners, key stakeholders, clients, and advertisers to kick off METRO FM’s awards season.
This year, the MMAs are scheduled for Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Mbombela Stadium.
Leading up to this grand event, the nominees will be unveiled during a special announcement on Thursday, February 27, 2025.
The MMAs are renowned for honoring and celebrating the best in South African music. Nada Wotshela, SABC Group Executive: Radio, emphasized the awards’ significant impact on the music industry and the nation.
“Last year’s event was a tremendous success, and we are eager to build on that momentum. The MMAs provide artists a vital platform to showcase their talents while allowing music enthusiasts to celebrate South African music’s finest,” said Wotshela.
Acknowledging the support from the Mpumalanga Provincial Government, Wotshela continued: “We are grateful for their steadfast support over the past two years, which has not only benefited the awards but has also contributed positively to the province’s economic development … This partnership has highlighted Mpumalanga’s stunning tourist destinations, boosted local hospitality industries, supported fashion and beauty businesses, and showcased local artistic talent.”
Expressing gratitude to The Motsepe Foundation for their continued sponsorship, Wotshela welcomed the participation of the AFI brand, noting the symbiotic relationship between music and fashion.
The Mpumalanga Provincial Government is equally committed to ensuring a memorable event.
Leah Mabuza, MEC for the Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation in Mpumalanga, said: “We thank METRO FM for providing us with a platform to showcase Mpumalanga as a premier destination and gateway to SADC economies.”
