The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party has announced leadership and parliamentary caucus changes, including the removal of Colleen Makhubele as its Chief Whip in Parliament.
Makhubele will remain a Member of Parliament (MP) but has been relieved of her caucus duties with immediate effect.
In her place, the party has appointed Mmabatho Mokoena-Zondi, currently the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) Chief Whip, to act in a caretaker capacity.
Mokoena-Zondi will interface with the Office of the Speaker and oversee internal governance within the caucus until a permanent appointment is made.
The party also confirmed that Mpiyakhe Limba has been relieved of his duties as Treasurer-General.
Limba was appointed to the position in March last year.
Disgraced former Eskom CEO Brian Molefe has been appointed as the new Treasurer-General, with the party citing his extensive experience in governance, finance, and public administration as key to strengthening its organisational capacity.
Molefe, who is also a former CEO of Transnet, was arrested on 29 August 2022 on corruption charges linked to a R93-million fraud and corruption case involving the procurement of locomotives at the state-owned company.
Molefe is currently out on R50,000 bail.
Additionally, the suspension of Vanessa Calvert has been lifted, and she has been reinstated as Chief of Staff in the Parliamentary Caucus.
MK Party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndlela said the changes were taken in the best interests of strengthening the movement and advancing its political mandate, reaffirming its commitment to organisational discipline, collective leadership, and the aspirations of South Africans.
