Light snow over high lying areas of the Eastern Cape and southern KwaZulu-Natal can be expected again over the coming days.
But it is unlikely to wreak the same havoc as it did in the two provinces and the Free State last weekend, with one person dying and hundreds stranded in their cars for days.
The SA Weather Service has issued a warning of light snow which is expected to begin in the Western Cape on Sunday and spread eastward towards KwaZulu-Natal by Monday.
“Snowfall is expected to clear up in the Western Cape and western parts of the Eastern Cape by Monday evening. Snowfall will, however, persist on Tuesday over the eastern parts of Eastern Cape and southern KwaZulu-Natal,” it said in a statement.
Temperatures are expected to be less than 10 degrees Celsius over the regions on Monday.
The KwaZulu-Natal government has a team on standby in case of emergency.
KwaZulu-Natal transport and human settlements MEC Siboniso Duma said the road incident management systems led by the SA National Roads Agency Limited were putting together a consolidated plan.
“They are identifying areas where joint operations and coordination will be established, covering all notorious roads and areas identified from past experiences,” He said
He also added that traffic law enforcement officials were involved in the coordination of possible road closures and observation of major routes in consultation with the N3 Toll Concession.
