National Union of Mineworkers mourn death of six colleagues involved in horror N4 crash

THE National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) Deputy General Secretary Mpho Phakedi has sent condolences to families of six members who died in a horrific car accident on the N4 toll road between Middelburg and Emalahleni.

“On behalf of the NUM National Executive Committee (NEC), staff members and everyone associated with this giant trade union we send our deepest condolences to the families, colleagues and friends of the deceased comrades during these difficult times”, said Phakedi.

Phakedi said all the deceased were employees of Sibanye Stillwater.

The union said the team was driving back from the NUM National Youth Structure Conference in the city of Mbombela in Mpumalanga.

“The comrades were driving together with the NUM PWV Regional Secretary comrade Bonginkosi Mrasi well known as “Bongz”. The other five comrades were NUM Youth Structure (NUM-YS) members at Kloof branch and delegates to the Youth Structure Conference,” Phakedi added.

The names of the deceased comrades are NUM PWV Regional Secretary Bonginkosi Bongz Mrasi, Kloof Branch Secretary Zukile Maskot, Kloof Branch Chairperson Lulama Madyosi, Kloof Branch Secretary Thantaswa Sikani, Kloof Branch Deputy Secretary Retshidisitswe Mbirha, and NUM-YS member Dumisani Futshana.

“May the souls of the deceased comrades rest in revolutionary peace. Hambani kahle Maxabani Aka Elijah Barayi!!” he said.

The union said details pertaining to memorial and funeral services of the members will be announced soon.
