PAC rejects anti-GNU statement as fake news peddled by ‘a few renegades’

THE Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC) has rejected recent statements that the party has made a U-turn and no longer supports the Government of National Unity (GNU) and its leader Mzwanele Nyhontso, calling it nothing but a sham from rogue elements.

PAC’s Secretary General (SG) Apa Pooe confirmed on Wednesday that the statement released by the ‘so-called’ Deputy Secretary General (DSG) Mbuso Dlamini, was not authentic and the letterhead used had been temporarily used in 2019 but discontinued during the Covid-19 epidemic.

Also, Dlamini was neither a part of the PAC NEC nor a member of the party and wasn’t elected when the party held its national congress to elect new members of the national executive committee (NEC) in Seshego in 2022, said Pooe adding that Eddie Mfullowane was the current DSG.

He said the recent statement attacking Nyhontso’s participation in the GNU was the product of malcontents claiming to be a part of the PAC.

“A few renegades held a meeting over the weekend using the PAC name. The intention was to tarnish the name of the PAC and its great leap forward to the GNU,” Pooe said.

He reiterated that the party leadership structures had been consulted following the national and provincial elections this year and had an overwhelming majority in support of the party participating in the GNU.

“These sabotage attempts are to be expected, particularly in the PAC’s most recent rectification campaign to find and maintain traction with the people and with the voting public,” the SG said.

He confirmed that the party intends to open a criminal case against Dlamini.
