International Relations and Cooperation Minister Naledi Pandor calls for peaceful negotiation and ceasefire as the way forward for resolving the current Ukraine-Russia conflict.
Pandor was hosting Ukraine’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, at the South Africa-Ukraine Bilateral Political Consultation Meeting where she said officials from her department were in communication with President Cyril Ramaphosa about how to address the concerns over the Russia-Ukraine war.
South Africa would always advocate for all countries to resolve their differences peacefully, Pandor said .
“As a continent, we continue to strive to build peace, to strive towards developing a culture of peaceful resolution of conflict and the promotion of the importance of diplomacy and peace as the route to resolving any dispute.”
The visit comes as the war between Russia and Ukraine intensifies. The war, which started in February 2022, has seen thousands dying and many more being displaced.
It seems the war is far from ending following Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky’s calls on the US to provide more funding to help his forces counter Russia.
Zelensky also invited former US President Donald Trump to fly in to see the scale of the conflict for himself. Trump has been critical of US support for Kyiv and said recently he could end the war in 24 hours if re-elected.
