President Cyril Ramaphosa has officially scoffed at the activities of the uMkhonto weSizwe party and said that he was unfazed by having to go head-to-head with his predecessor former President Jacob Zuma in the upcoming National and Provincial Elections.

Ramaphosa was addressing thousands of ANC members and supporters in eThekwini on Tuesday and added that even their detractors were now shaking seeing the ANC’s large numbers in the mini rally.

Many have called this interaction as one of the most important battles of who would control the biggest voting block province, KwaZulu-Natal, and that Ramaphosa was taking the battle straight to the doorstep of his predecessor Zuma whose aim was to hurt the ANC at the polls with MK.

The ANC’s biggest region with some of the most support for MK has had to pull two big mini rallies in a month, starting from ward 1 Kwa-Ximba until Inanda.

“I didn’t think that there would be a lot of people like this, you are full to capacity in such an amazing way, and which will scare off those who are against us, they will be shaking when they see that the ANC is alive here,” Ramaphosa said.

Zuma has been active across the country, with Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal so far drawing the biggest numbers for Zuma’s new political project to unseat the ruling party.

“Every black person must join uMkhonto weSizwe, even those who have other parties must join here because MK is the today, the future and till eternity here in Africa. I hope we all agree,” Zuma said.

However, Ramaphosa said that those campaigning against the former liberation movement would be disappointed as the party will still hold onto power in KwaZulu-Natal.

“We are saying that the ANC will be in charge here in KZN, it will also be in charge nationally and all other provinces. Even in the Western Cape, we are saying to this DA that’s in charge in the Western Cape, watch out because we are on our watch to snatch that Western Cape. So, comrades, our campaign is getting warm now and showing that the ANC is alive”.

The ANC is expected to campaign across the province of KZN in preparation for the party’s manifesto launch at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, where they also plan to showcase their support in the highly contested province.
