Three new HODs have been appointed for education, social development and agriculture by Limpopo premier Phophi Ramathuba following an executive council meeting.

Maropene Veniel Seshibe is the HOD of the education department for the next five years. Seshibe previously served as the acting superintendent general for education in the North West.

Thembeni Elphie Mhlongo was named HOD of the social development department. She had been working as a director at Dynamic Services and earlier as a social scientist with the Gauteng government.

Mpho Abigail Mashamba is the HOD for the department of agriculture and rural development. She was the acting HOD.

“We are pleased that we have been able to conclude this part, particularly that we needed to get the best suitable candidates for the job at hand. The province requires administrative leadership that is agile and sensitive to current needs.

“We need to harness their expertise to change the province’s outlook, grow the economy, create jobs and address the high cost of living,” Ramathuba said in a statement.

She said the appointment ensured gender balance and it was up to these HODs to demonstrate they were up for the task.

“… they will receive the best political support that we can offer,” the premier said.

Ramathuba added that the executive council was expected to finalise the appointment of the HOD for health in the coming days, and the HOD for sports, arts and culture would be concluded by August.
