SA DG appointed to global comms tech body

Communication and Digital Technologies director-general Nonkqubela Jordan-Dyani,has been appointed to the International Advisory Body for Submarine Cable Resilience.

Dyani was chosen because of her vast experience and expertise in the sector, according to department spokesperson Tlangelani Manganyi.

“Ms Jordan-Dyani’s vast experience, insight and expertise in the sector which she has served for almost two decades will come in handy to the advisory body and serve as invaluable guidance to the team,” she said in a statement on Monday.

It was unveiled by the International Telecommunication Union and the International Cable Protection Committee this weekend. Its aim it to enhance the security of critical telecommunications infrastructure.

The chairs are Bosun Tijani, who is Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, and Prof. Sandra Maximiano, who is the chairperson of the Board of Directors at Portugal’s National Communications Authority.

The new body will drive international collaboration to ensure the resilience of submarine cables, ultimately contributing to a more connected and digital world.

“South Africa boasts a total number of 11 submarine cables on her shores that will play a significant role as a pathway of bridging the digital gap in our society,” Manganyi.

The body will promote dialogue and collaboration among governments, regulatory authorities, industry leaders and key stakeholders to enhance the safety, redundancy and protection of submarine cables.

It comprises 40 members.
