The Senzo Meyiwa murder trial has taken a different turn as police have now confirmed a case of conspiracy to commit murder.

The case of conspiracy to commit murder has been registered and is under investigation, according to Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe.

This comes after three men seated in the public gallery were removed from the High Court in Pretoria during the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial on Tuesday.

The trial adjourned to allow counsel to review the new developments.

The revelation comes amid heightened tensions in the High Court, where five men stand accused of the 2014 killing of the Bafana Bafana captain.

“All steps taken are to ensure we eliminate the threat as well as to protect and save lives,” Mathe said.

Police have received solid intel that there was a group of individuals who attended proceedings with the sole purpose of eliminating key role players on the side of the state.

“The SAPS has taken a group of individuals who attended proceedings this morning for further questioning and profiling. Security has been heightened, and intelligence is on high alert,” said Mathe.

No arrests have been made and the precautions were taken to eliminate possible threats to police probes.
