Joburg residents were on Monday morning greeted by white flakes floating all around, a slight drizzle and freezing temperatures while other parts of Gauteng, Eastern and Dubarn had real snowfall.
The snow was greeted with excitement because the last time Joburg and Gauteng residents had a whiff of snow was in August 2012.
The bad news is that the Weather Services predict more snowfall over the southern Drakensberg and the western parts of KwaZulu Natal right up to Newcastle.
As temperatures are expected to drop further and Eskom has ramped up load shedding to Stage 4, Joburg Emergency Services have urged residents to be extra cautious when using heating appliances to keep themselves warm.
Joburg Emergency Management Services spokesperson Nana Radebe warned residents to avoid open fires as the ‘extremely cold temperatures are expected to persist in most parts of the country over the next few days, with snow in high-lying areas. The cold conditions are expected to last until the end of the week,” she said.
