The eight-year-old girl from neighbouring Botswana – the only survivor of the Limpopo bus crash where 45 Botswana pilgrims were killed over the Easter Weekend on their way to church – has been discharged from hospital.

On Wednesday morning, the Standard 4 learner, Lorraine Atlang Siako was escorted by several medical care workers, government officials and members of the media as she arrived at the Polokwane International Airport, to catch an hour-long connecting flight to the OR Tambo International Airport in Joburg.

From Joburg, Siako and her mother are scheduled to catch the flight to their country, Botswana.

Limpopo Health MEC Phophi Ramathuba said  she is pleased with the progress made by Siako who survived the deadly bus crash where all the pilgrims headed to Moria, perished when it overturned and burst into flames.

Ramathuba spoke to the media outside the Polokwane Airport on Wednesday morning.

“I still insist that she is in a position where we can now release her into her home because the psychological impact of being away from home contributes to her total complete healing. She is still in a lot of pain, but we are satisfied with her condition”.

On Tuesday, Health Minister Joe Phaahla promised that the post-mortem results for the identified bus crash victims would be completed soon.
