The DA said Magashule and his faction have done tremendous damage to the Free State economy in the role they played in state capture that has devastated service delivery in the province and municipalities and left 61% of the people in the Free State in poverty.

This comes after Magashule and others formed a new political party called African Congress for Transformation (ACT) in Orlando west in Soweto on Wednesday.

“Magashule and his cadres have been implicated in many controversial and highly publicised cases such as the Vrede Dairy Saga and the Asbestos Scandal among many others. His cadres remain in provincial and municipal governments and will continue to sabotage service delivery until they are removed by a DA-led government,” said Dr Roy Jankielsohn.

Jankielsohn said the stage is now set for the already divided ANC in the Free State to formally split in the run-up to the 2024 National and Provincial Elections.

“His break with the ANC leaves the already factionalised ANC in the Free State irreconcilably and formally divided now that the RET faction has another option,” he added.

Jankielsohn also called out the residents of the Free State to unite with the DA in the next election and encouraged people to register to vote.

“Those who care about their future have an opportunity to unite behind the DA as the largest opposition party in the province with a record of sound service delivery in government. It is now more important than ever for every eligible voter to ensure that they are registered to vote for change in 2024 to stop the destruction and decay in the Free State”.
