Following flooding which saw operations suspended at the Grobler’s Bridge and Stockpoort ports of entry with Botswana, the Border Management Authority said on Thursday that usual activities had resumed.
“At Grobler’s Bridge, water levels have completely subsided, and the ground has now dried sufficiently to support the weight of cargo trucks passing through the port. The Port Management Committee (PMC) has conducted a thorough inspection of key operational areas and is satisfied with the current conditions,” BMA commissioner Michael Masiapato said.
Operations at the Bray Port of Entry are still suspended due heavy rainfall in the area that increased the flow of the Molapo River, which is usually intermittent and slow.
According to the Port Management Committee’s evaluation, operations at Bray were expected to resume over the weekend, pending more assessments.
“The BMA, in collaboration with the South African Revenue Service (SARS), thanks all stakeholders for their patience and cooperation during this period,” Masiapato said.
He said the BMA would continue to closely monitor weather patterns.
