The DA’s Federal leader John Steenhuisen on Monday announced uMngeni Mayor Chris Pappas as the DA’s KZN premier candidate for the 2024 National General Elections.
Steenhuisen described Pappas as a dynamic young leader who walks the walk and has made the uMngeni Municipality a shining beacon on the hill while the rest of KZN lies in ruin.
“The time has come to kick the ANC out of KZN and that Chris Pappas was the man to lead that mission and provide hope where the ANC has only provided misery, hunger, maladministration, and poverty,” Steenhuisen said.
Pappas studied town and regional planning at the University of Pretoria and started his political career as a member and later president of the student representative council at the University of Pretoria.
He started his political career as a member and later president of the Student Representative Council at the University of Pretoria, and served as an eThekwini councilor, a DA member of the KZN Legislature where he was the DA KZN Spokesperson on Agriculture, later becoming the Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) spokesperson.
Pappas was the campaign manager in KZN for the 2014 elections and was elected as mayor in uMngeni and has been praised for making the uMngeni municipality a shining beacon.
The DA said that the party has been actively working to increase its support in KZN with the party leader announcing the DA’s KZN premier candidate for the 2024 election as a crucial step in the DA’s mission to rescue the province.
In addition, the DA has formed a “service delivery pact” with IFP focused on working together for service delivery rather than governing together or exchanging political positions in municipal councils.
