THE leader of the Umkhonto weSizwe (MK) party and former President Jacob Zuma has called for what the party has described as a “pivotal media conference”, in order to address the “current political situation in the country”.
MK party national spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela said on Wednesday that the party leadership would address the nation on important issues as well as the direction MK hopes to take going forward.
“This is regarding the current political situation and ongoing developments in South Africa. The president and the leadership of the party will be covering broad strategic organisational issues that are vital to the national discourse and the future trajectory of the party in the South African political landscape,” Ndhlela said.
The former President last addressed the media in June this year, after the national and provincial elections.
Many have speculated over the intended topic of the address, with Zuma being expected to discuss Floyd Shivambu and Mzwanele Manyi’s defection from the EFF to MK party.
Rumours have arisen concerning what Shivambu’s new position might be within Zuma’s party, with some speculating his appointment as parliamentary leader.
Shivambu announced his resignation from the EFF in Johannesburg last week, and subsequently confirmed his joining of the MK party.
He previously said that no specific position or promise has been offered to him and that he made the decision on his own.
Ndhlela welcomed his move, and said that both Shivambu and Manyi will be deployed in accordance with their strengths and expertise.
