Standard Bank has partnered with Southern Guards GC, the South African team competing on the LIV Golf circuit, as the team prepares for the first LIV Golf South Africa event later this month.
The partnership, announced on Thursday through the bank’s Private Banking arm, comes ahead of the tournament at Steyn City in Johannesburg from March 19 to 22.
Standard Bank said the deal forms part of its broader support for sport, which it sees as a driver of national pride, talent development and community building. Last week, the bank also announced a partnership with the South African Football Association.
Standard Bank Head of Private Banking in South Africa Bridgette Kruger said the agreement was in line with the bank’s wider approach to backing athletes and sport in the country.
“Our partnership with Southern Guards GC is a natural extension of our long-standing commitment to sport. For decades, we’ve backed initiatives that empower athletes, develop talent, and bring communities together because we believe in sport’s power to inspire and strengthen the nation,” said Kruger.
“Southern Guards GC reflects that same ambition and excellence on the global stage, and we’re proud to stand alongside the team.”
The bank said the collaboration would also help it connect with a global audience while promoting a broader view of wealth that includes experiences, wellbeing and legacy.
For Southern Guards GC, the partnership provides local support ahead of their home event on the LIV Golf calendar.
Captain Louis Oosthuizen said the deal had added significance as the team gets ready to play in front of home fans.
“We’re really excited to be playing on home soil later this month, and having a proudly local brand like Standard Bank standing alongside us makes it even more meaningful,” said Oosthuizen.
“It means a lot to have that support from back home, and this announcement is a big moment for the team ahead of such an important event for LIV Golf in South Africa.”
Southern Guards GC also includes Dean Burmester, Charl Schwartzel and Branden Grace.
Under the agreement, the team’s players will wear the Standard Bank Private logo on their right sleeves during upcoming LIV Golf tournaments worldwide.
The partnership will also give selected Standard Bank Private clients access to exclusive hospitality experiences at the South African event.
