Bafana Fridays is back as Government calls for national support ahead of Bafana Bafana World Cup opener

Government has urged all South Africans to rally behind Bafana Bafana as the national team prepares to face Mexico in the opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at Mexico City Stadium on Thursday, 11 June, at 21:00.

In a call for visible solidarity, South African’s are encouraged to participate in Bafana Fridays by wearing green or gold as a show of support.

This traditional gesture aims to unite the country through football, demonstrating the collective spirit and pride of the nation.

“Football has the power to bring South Africans together and inspire a shared sense of national pride and unity,” the statement reads. “As our boys take to the field, let us raise our voices, wear our colours, and stand firmly behind them.”

“To Bafana Bafana: the nation stands with you. Fly the South African flag high and continue to make us proud. ALL OF US. ALL IN. KAOFELA.
