The family of acclaimed South African actor Seputla Sebogodi has confirmed his passing on the evening of 15 July 2026, following complications related to diabetes. In a statement released on Thursday, the Sebogodi family expressed their profound sadness and requested privacy as they mourn the loss of the beloved performer.

Sebogodi leaves behind a colourful legacy in South African theatre and television, having built a career that spanned decades and inspired generations of performers.
He was best known for his unforgettable roles in popular television productions such as Generations, Suburban Bliss, Bophelo ke Semphego, Redemption, and, most recently Scandal! – where his commanding presence and nuanced performances earned him widespread acclaim.

Beyond television, Sebogodi was a celebrated stage actor whose work enriched South African theatre. His performances in productions such as Big Dada, Waiting for Godot, The Rivonia Trial, Once a Pirate, and Mooi Street Moves showcased his versatility and deep commitment to storytelling.
The family’s statement described Sebogodi’s career as “a remarkable body of work” that touched countless lives.
“His legacy will live on through his remarkable body of work and the many lives he touched,” the statement read.
